About Company
Ettore Bugatti was a German then French manufacturer of premium cars. Italian-born industrial designer Ettore Bugatti founded the company in 1909 in the then German city of Molsheim in Alsace. The cars were known for their design and many race wins. Famous Bugatti cars include the Type 35 Grand Prix cars, the Type 41 “Royale”, the Type 57 “Atlantic” and the Type 55 sports cars. The death of Ettore Bugatti in 1947 proved an important blow to the brand, and the death of his son Jean Bugatti in 1939 meant that the factory remained without a successor.
A maximum of about 8,000 cars were produced. The company ran into financial difficulties and produced the last model in the 1950s before finally being bought out in 1963 for its aircraft parts business. An Italian entrepreneur bought the brand and revived it under the name Bugatti Automobili. Bugattis clearly focus on design. The engine blocks were hand-scraped to make the surfaces smooth enough to eliminate the need for gaskets, many of the exposed surfaces in the engine compartment were guilloche finished (the engine was turned), and safety wires were threaded through almost every fastener with intricate lace patterns.
Instead of attaching springs to the axles as most manufacturers did, Bugatti’s axles were forged so that the spring passed through a carefully measured hole in the axle, a much more elegant solution that required fewer parts. He famously described rival Bentley cars as “the fastest trucks in the world” because of their focus on durability. According to Bugatti, “weight was the enemy” as ut reduces the mobility of the cars so they tried to reduce the weight to increase the top speed of the cars.
The early years of Bugatti were marked by a series of groundbreaking designs and engineering feats. In 1910, Bugatti introduced the Type 13, which was the first car to feature an eight-cylinder engine. This car set several speed records and established Bugatti as a major player in the automotive world. In 1913, Bugatti introduced the Type 18, which was one of the first cars to feature a four-valve engine. This car was also incredibly fast and won several races, including the prestigious Indianapolis 500 in 1914.
During the 1920s and 1930s, Bugatti continued to push the boundaries of automotive engineering. The Type 35, which was introduced in 1924, was one of the most successful racing cars of all time, winning over 1,000 races in its lifetime. The Type 41, also known as the “Royale,” was introduced in 1926 and was one of the largest and most luxurious cars of its time. Only six of these cars were ever built, and they remain some of the most valuable and sought-after cars in the world today.
Working at Bugatti
In 2016, Bugatti introduced the Chiron, which is the successor to the Veyron. The Chiron is even more powerful and exclusive than the Veyron, with a top speed of 261 mph and a price tag of around $3 million. It also features advanced aerodynamics, carbon fiber construction, and active suspension.
The Bugatti Veyron, introduced in 2005, was the first car to break the 250 mph barrier and was widely considered to be the fastest car in the world at the time. The Veyron featured a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine that produced 1,001 horsepower and 922 lb-ft of torque. With a top speed of 253 mph, the Veyron was able to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. The Veyron was also incredibly exclusive, with only 450 units produced, and was priced at around $2.5 million.
