Air Arabia was established on February 3, 2003 by decree of Amiri Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasim, Ruler of Sharjah and Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, becoming the first low-cost airline in the Middle East. The airline began operations on 28 October 2003 with the first flight from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates to Bahrain International Airport. The airline was profitable from the first year of operation. In early 2007, the company launched an initial public offering of 55% of its shares. In March 2014, Airbus delivered its 6,000th A320 family aircraft to Air Arabia.
