The master plan, designed by the American company HOK, was organized around a central square called Al Wasl Plaza, surrounded by three large themed areas. Each of them was dedicated to one of the sub-themes of Expo 2020 – opportunities, mobility and sustainable development. The infrastructure of the 4.38 km long Expo 2020 site was built by Orascom and BESIX. There was an emergency center on site, which includes isolation, ambulance, ambulance and helicopter service. The destination also hosted ROVE Expo 2020, which was the only hotel on site. The hotel had 312 rooms and 19 suites with a rooftop pool overlooking Al Wasl Plaza.

The Terra Sustainable Development Pavilion was open from January 22, 2021 to April 10, 2021. The People and the Planet (PPP) program was also held as part of the Expo. The program was organized around five main themes – Build Bridges (cultural focus), Leave No One Behind (social development), Live in Balance (sustainable development focus), Thrive Together (economic focus) and the United Arab Emirates.
