About
Pagani is an Italian manufacturer of hypercars and carbon fiber components. Founded in 1992 by Argentinian Horacio Pagani, the company is located in San Cesario sul Panaro near Modena, Italy. Horacio Pagani, who previously headed Lamborghini’s composite division, founded Pagani Composite Research in 1988. This new company worked with Lamborghini on several projects, including the Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition, the Lamborghini LM002, the P140 design concept, and the P.14-restructure.
In 1980s, Pagani began designing his own car, and then called it the “C8 Project”. Pagani intended to rename the C8 the “Fangio F1” to honor his friend, Argentine five-time Formula 1 champion Juan Manuel Fangio. In 1991, Pagani also founded Modena Design to meet the growing in demand for its design, engineering and it’s prototyping services. At 1992 he started building the Fangio F1 prototype and by 1993 the car was tested in the Dallara wind tunnel with positive results.
In 1994, Mercedes-Benz agreed to supply the Pagani with V12 engines. The total cost of these cars is 2.3 million USD. The final car was called the Zonda C12, the first of the Zonda series (the Fangio F1 name was dropped out of respect for Fangio, who died in 1995). It was first introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1999. In 2005, Pagani announced plans to triple production over the next three years and enter the US market in 2007.
Paganis first model, the Zonda, is equipped with a DOHC V12 engine. manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. AMG division. The car’s design is inspired by fighter jets and the famous Sauber-Mercedes Silver Arrow Group C cars, and features a number of unique design elements, including a circular four-pipe exhaust system. Zonda production ended with the Zonda HP Barchetta. Only three were produced, one of which was kept in Horacio Pagani’s personal collection and the other two cost $15 million.
