Sharjah Government Jobs and Careers in UAE

Sharjah is the capital of the emirate of same name. The emirate shares legal, political, military and economic functions with other UAE emirates  within a federal framework, although each emirate has specific functions such as civil law enforcement and the provision and maintenance of local facilities. Sharjah has been ruled by the Al Qasim dynasty since the 18th century. The city is a centre of culture and industry, generating 7.4 percent of the UAE’s GDP alone.

The city covers an  area of ​​about 235 km and has a population of more than 800,000 (2008). The sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in the emirate of Sharjah without a liquor license, and due to the Muslim majority of the region, alcohol is not served in Sharjah’s hotels, restaurants, or other outlets. This  helped Sharjah increase the number of Muslim tourists visiting the country. WHO has  officially named Sharjah as a  healthy city. The 2016 edition of QS Best Student Cities ranked Sharjah as the 68th best university city in the world. Sharjah is considered the cultural capital of the United Arab Emirates and was the capital of Islamic culture  in 2014. UNESCO has chosen Sharjah as the Book Capital of 2019.

Sharjah is the third largest city in the United Arab Emirates after Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Palace of the Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasim, is located approximately 20 kilometers southeast of the city. The city of Sharjah overlooks the Persian Gulf and it also has a population of over 800,000 in 2008. It contains the main administrative and commercial centers and several cultural and traditional projects, including several museums covering  archaeology, natural history, science, art, cultural heritage, Islamic art and culture, among others.

Characteristic attractions include two large covered markets that reflect Islamic design, as well as many entertainment areas and public parks such as Al Montazah Fun Park and Al Buheirah Corniche. The city is also known for its many elegant mosques. The Government of Sharjah is the administrative authority of the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The government is headed by Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, who has been the ruler of Sharjah since 1972. The Government of Sharjah is divided into several departments and agencies, each with its own specific responsibilities and functions.

Sharjah is the headquarters of Air Arabia, the first low-cost airline in the Middle East, which flies to the Middle East, Asia and Europe. It is headquartered in the Sharjah Business Center on the grounds of the Sharjah International Airport. The Sharjah Airport International Free Zone, also known as the SAIF Zone, is one of the most important free trade zones in the UAE. More than 6,000 companies operate through the SAIF Zone. The cost of setting up a business in Sharjah is lower than in any other UAE Emirate, and the focus on industrialization has made Sharjah a business hub in recent years. SAIF Zone has attracted investors from more than 90 countries thanks to 100 percent foreign ownership, repatriation of capital and profits, and exemption from income and corporate taxes.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium has hosted nearly 218 cricket One Day Internationals, more than any other ground, and 4 test matches. Sharjah is also  in the UAE Pro League. There is also  a chess club in Sharjah. As IPL 2020 was held in the United Arab Emirates, Sharjah Cricket Stadium was one of the three stadiums where the matches were held. Sharjah Heritage Museum is located near  Bait Al Naboodah, which is just opposite Soouq Al Arsah. It is an architecturally designed two-storey detached house. Built around a shady courtyard, it is dedicated to reconstructing family life  years ago.
