Nike’s headquarters are surrounded by the city of Beaverton, but located in unincorporated Washington County. The city attempted to forcibly annex Nike’s headquarters, leading to a Nike lawsuit and corporate lobbying that eventually culminated in Oregon Senate Bill 887 of 2005. The terms of the bill specifically prohibit Beaverton from forcibly annexing Nike and Columbia Sportswear land. has operated in Washington County for 35 years, while Electro Scientific Industries and Tektronix receive the same protection for 30 years.
In June 2015, Nike signed an 8-year deal with the NBA to become the league’s official uniform supplier starting in the 2017-2018 season. The brand was taken over by Adidas, which has supplied the league’s uniforms since 2006. Unlike past deals, the Nike logo will appear on NBA jerseys, a first for the league. Originally owned by longtime Nike supporter Michael Jordan, the Charlotte Hornets were the only team not to use the Nike Swoosh, instead using the Jumpman logo associated with Jordan-related products. However, beginning in the 2020–21 season, the Jumpman replaced the NBA’s alternate “Statement” uniform.
